After two years compulsory military service, he spent a decade as a helicopter paramedic in South Africa.

He spent the next decade practising as a specialist liability loss adjuster in South Africa, the UAE, New Zealand, and Australia, where he became the state manager for a national loss adjusting firm, forging strong ties with many insurers.

In early 2008, Gavin started practising law, spending six months with Jackson McDonald, before accepting a position at Greenland Legal.

Since moving to legal practice, Gavin has introduced and worked on cases ranging up to AU$170m, for both local and international insurers and reinsurers.
